Mid-Winter IBT Attendees are International Leaders

…and nobody else even qualifies!  Just another event that leaves us shaking our heads in disbelief.  Apparently there’s an ‘established custom‘ that will keep you from ever being nominated for international office in this club, unless you can get down to that Mid-Winter IBT meeting.  Get a load of this…

From the February 2009 issue of the WBCCI New Jersey Unit Newsletter:

Pat McFadden, (4X) Unit President, ‘10 International Nominating Committee Candidate:  ”On the International Level, I was scheduled to be interviewed by the International Nominating Committee on January 14th at 11:30 in Texas, but I could not leave the FEMA offices, [Pat is working disaster relief in FL] so I asked for consideration of the committee to perhaps do a phone interview, which I would have done anything to have accomplished.  However, the committee chair, Jerry Collins, PIP, called to tell me the committee could not, and that they were also concerned about setting a precedent by interviewing me on the telephone.  Needless to say, I will not be a Nominee for one of the two positions on the 2009-20010 International Nominating Committee, although, as the Chairman said, I could “…always run from the floor.”  That wasn’t what I was hoping for, but I could not get there under these extraordinary conditions.  We move on.”

There is nothing in our constitution, or our bylaws, that requires a candidate to appear in person, to be interviewed for any position within this club.  In fact, there is nothing in our constitution or bylaws that says an interview is mandatory at all.  Yet this is how the selection process currently works.

While it may be good practice for any committee to conduct an interview, a phone interview should certainly not be disallowed, in fact, how can any chair disqualify a candidate temporarily working disaster relief, 1500 miles from their own home? [Pat lives in NJ, and his current assignment is FL]

No wonder this club is running TWO years in the RED, and we’re likely to fall below 6,000 members in 2009.  WAKE UP PEOPLE!

WBCCI members will likely be writing about this at the SaveWally.org/forums.  If you would like to monitor what is going on, or you would like to participate yourself (we not only tolerate, but appreciate all views here), here is the link:
