Wow -- for the perfect example of how the IBT expects ITS word to move through the club without any opposition all you have to do is look at the San Diego Unit ballot for the Four Winds Motorhome Issue.

THERE IS NO OPPOSITION!  Just the gospel 'facts are irrelevant' stance of the Region 12 President.  That's all San Diego requires to get a fair and balanced view of the peril that is about to fall on the WBCCI.  I hope you're sitting down folks -- here's the spin...

"By voting “yes” you are agreeing that you approve the motion. According to Jim Elmlinger in the April issue of the Blue Beret (“It’s All About the Members, Our Friends” pp. 15-17) to include specific “wording in the WBCCI Constitution and Bylaws that would allow for the acceptance into WBCCI those Class A motorhomes identified as Wally Byam Edition manufactured by Four Winds International Division and its subsidiary division Mandalay; all of which fall under the THOR INDUSTRIES, INC umbrella. This includes the entire Four Winds Class-A motorhome model line (Mandalay, Presidio, Valencia, Hurricane, Windsport and Magellan) be put forward to meet the needs of our current members who already own similar motorhome configurations within WBCCI today.”

By voting “no” you are voting against the motion."

How frighteningly irresponsible is that?  Did it mention NEW members in Four Winds MoHos?  Did it mention USED Four Winds being allowed into the club -- in direct competition with USED AIRSTREAMS?  Oh, and if that wasn't enough 'Why should I vote no?' information for you, it was immediately followed by:

"If you wish further information you can go to the WBCCI web site and click on the “General Information” icon. Then proceed to “2007 Delegates Agenda” for exact wording of the motion."

Here's the link to the May San Diego Newsletter:

Not a single mention of the IBT SOB motion or voting results in the June '07 Newsletter.  Want to guess at the San Diego results?   >:(

If someone could find out and report back that would be great!  We're still looking for a couple of hundred votes!   ;D

Sorry for the long delay in responding.  I just found this web site.
The San Diego Unit had a great discussion about the motorhome issue at one of our rallies.  Fifteen rigs were in attendance.  The vote was 100% against admitting non-Airstream products to WBCCI.  This vote included a motorhome owner.

During the entire time leadership was trying to scuttle our Airstream only membership requirements, information was extremely hard to come by.  Usually a newsletter is a club's primary method of getting information and news out to its membership, and to not cover such a huge topic was baffling to an observer looking for information.  San Diego was not alone, not by far...

Interesting timing for this though...  It would appear that information doesn't flow so easily out there.  Gathering leadership email addresses was difficult, without having to tear through 8 point type in a membership booklet.  With ~350 members participating in the current poll, all of R12 accounts for just 9 respondents.  See the Mid-Winter IBT Motions Survey post for the real numbers...
