WBCCI Unit Guide
« on: March 01, 2007, 07:20:30 PM »

I know we've got regulars checking in here all the time and we appreciate the support.  I know we've got post counters too.  There's a whole flurry of activity going on behind the scenes.  Even if we're just working a single issue or a single flier it can take up a substantial number of posts by the time we're done.

My apologies that there isn't a lot of frequent public posting going on.  When the name change issue came up we worked two solid months without making a peep.  We started SaveWally at the end of '05 (literally the end of December) and if memory serves me right we didn't launch our efforts until mid-March.  We're almost back in that mode again only this time we already have a public address and people are watching.   :o

Prior to the IBT SOB amendment issue being forced on us we were working two very important issues.

We were devising a membership drive and had the WBCCI's attention.  At least Dona Garner's (International Membership Chair) attention.  We're in a holding pattern on that one waiting to hear back that Dona wants to give our approach a shot.

The other thing we had toyed with and started to work at is a downloadable marketing tool.  This would be of most value to potential members.  Potential members both shopping for a unit and wondering what really goes on in those units, or in a geographic region at least.  It's a SaveWally WBCCI Unit Guide.

This is merely a pdf file with embedded hyperlinks.  What?  Yeah, you just click on what you want. ;D  The freely redistributable version will have two pages per unit.  An "about us" page for each unit, and a "Activity Schedule" page for each unit.  It's about a 285 page pdf but other than the size you'd never know it.  With the hyperlinks you'll just automatically see exactly what it is you want to see and nothing else.

The file at the bottom of this link only works for region 1 -- hey it's a prototype and Region one has only a few units.  Better to experiment with a small region!   :D

Although we sent emails requesting "about us" information from each unit in Region 1 only the Canadian Atlantic has responded to our request so far.  So what you can browse through will have the activity schedule for each unit (that information came right out of the directory) but as you'll quickly see only the Canadian Atlantic has an 'about us' page that's informative.

Just as soon as the IBT stops wasting our time with an ill conceived SOB motion (do they specialize in ill conceived or what?) we'll get back to the business of growing the club.  We could do the membership drive right now but that ball has been in WBCCI's court for months.

So do the download, take it for a spin.  We'd love to get your feedback but keep in mind that this version is for the whole wide world.  We've got another one in mind that will be a heck of a lot more useful for members only.  One thing at a time... (wow wouldn't that be great!)...

RETENTION is job number one -- we're losing far too many members annually and we have no idea why.  We prefer to guess and speculate instead of having hard core facts at hand.

The IBT has traditionally left this crisis in the hands of an International Membership Chair volunteer relying on a network of region and unit volunteers.  This is a HUGE and COSTLY MISTAKE.  The WBCCI is a business -- our only product is selling MEMBERSHIPS.

We need to put HQs 100% in charge of the data collection with professionally designed scripts, 100% phone surveys, compiling all the reasons why we lose members.  With the knowledge gained from those professionally designed scripts and surveys we can form a plan of attack.  Until we do that, your IBT is continuing to fail us - the entire club.  THIS is why they expect 4% annual declines in membership -- because they refuse to get their hands around the issue, around the problem, and form a plan of attack that will turn declines into increases in membership.

A quick update:

The WBCCI Unit Guide is alive and well.  I'm working at pages.google.com (it's far easier for me), but when the guide is finished we'll try and get it moved directly to the SaveWally.org website.  This guide truly belongs at WBCCI.org so that we reduce the number of MALs that continually sign up because they know NOTHING about our local units.  A figure that came out of the International in Perry is that 18% of MALs do not renew.  Wow -- big surprise (NOT).  They merely write a check and in many cases their only interaction with the club is the Blue Beret.  It's amazing that MAL non-renewal number aren't 60%.

If the WBCCI isn't interested in this guide (and it's available to them at no charge with all SaveWally references removed) then we'll get it moved to the SaveWally.org site upon completion.  If it stays here we'll add which way units voted on both the name change and Four Winds issues.  Potential members should be aware of the political stances of a unit they are considering joining.

They should also be aware of a units voting methods.  Too many people find out after they join that their units vote is controlled by leaders and those that can show up at a specific rally -- that's it -- it's the only way to vote.  We are very interested in highlighting those units that allow a mail ballot for constitutional changes (unit and international).

Right now Regions 1-3 are complete.  I'll post updates here when another Region is added.  Here's the guide:

...and on a POSITIVE note...

SaveWally's WBCCI Unit Guide is moving along nicely.

Region's 1-8 are now complete, and with some much appreciated help from Luminumtraila at the other end, we've now got Region 12 online.

Region's 11 and 9 are next (working from both ends now) but at this pace should be wrapped up within the week.

http://SaveWally.GooglePages.com/UnitGuide

Of course we're looking for unit input -- corrected schedules for the year; correct locations for unit icons; contacts with email addresses; locations of websites and newsletters, etc.  If your unit isn't online just yet -- it's coming!!   ;D

I know that the map is only representative, but please move El Camino Real to Orange/ San Diego County, most members are in that area.  Also please move South Coast to Orange County, most members are there.

I will work with the ECR board to supply you with updated information.

The Region 9 website.  The Texas Highland Lakes Unit website..  I am webmaste of both sites.

Texas Highland Lakes Unit is one of the very few WBCCI units that have grown each of the last 4 years.  We are a very active unit with an average rally attendance of 25 rigs.  Luncheon at Luby's Cafeteria, US183 and Research Blvd. at 1:00 on each first Tuesday except July.  This year's membership vote at Perry was 60 members.  Highland Lakes co-sponsors the Texas Vintage Rallies.

President 2006-2007 is Jerry Jackson, 512-832-5663, cell 512-431-8536,  jerry@gaj.com

First VP is Kay L.Fisher-Irwin, 512-288-3235

Second VP is Janie Haddaway (past Intl First Lady), 254-582-3201, jhaddaway@juno.com

Bill if you could take another look at that map it would be appreciated.  If you don't see a change -- clear your cache.  I moved the entire El Camino unit at least 400 miles south, I hope you guys can handle the moving expenses!

Pahaska -- Region 9 isn't up yet, but I just finished up Texas Highlands so you could see what we have listed.  We usually target Membership Chairs when we can find them.  If there's a better contact for a prospective member let me know...

We're THRILLED to get feedback so if you'd like to change anything there let me know.  Also looking for unit dues/yr.

Hey that is looking real impressive Leo. Wonderful resource and great work. Who is the unit contact, I see they are the same? I was thinking that would be the membership chairperson of the unit, but no?

We only list what we can find online unless somebody gives us permission to do otherwise.  If a unit has no website, or a unit doesn't have an online newsletter then I don't want to just pluck an email address and contact name out of the air (or other sources).  That could lead to units complaining that we posted contact info without permission.  But if it's already posted anywhere online (website or online newsletter) then it's already generally available.

The single exception to this point is NEU, Region 1.  MyBoyBurt didn't put her email address up in text form.  She put it up as text in a graphic.  Many webcrawlers can decipher text in a gif or jpg, but to be safe we just used her graphic to display her email address.

There are websites where you can encrypt your email address in code, but those cyphering routines don't work with GooglePages (tried, tried, and tried again)...

So if you see Jody Morris (HQs) it's because we couldn't find a decent online contact for that unit.

Getting closer, I would move San Fernando from the high desert to the valley, say next to the Long Beach trailer and Monterey Bay from Sacramento to south of Santa Clara.  Residents of California would know that the locations are incorrect and it would probably not bother them, but might as well be as close as possible.

The intent is to be as accurate as possible but I'm relying on google searches to find general areas of description.  Your help is great!  I re-adjusted the locators again.  Let me know what you think.  Going out to dinner -- won't be back for hours...

Outstanding work Leo.  I'm not sure how you determine the unit location of the Tenn Unit 95 on the Region 6 map, but most of the unit activities are centered at TCPC (Crossville) about 175 miles east of Nashville and 75 miles west of Knoxville, so you may want to move the trailer between Nashville Music City and East Tenn. Gets pretty crowded on that little stretch of I-40 doesn't it?

Tnx

Best guess based on some quick Google searches.  I expect a lot of units will want to tweak their trailers.  More than happy to do it -- TOMORROW!  Going to bed!
