2010 Mid-Winter IBT Meeting Wrap-up
« on: February 07, 2010, 09:06:16 AM »

I'm just putting together a summary report for those 335 members that participated in our survey.  No need to include leadership in this summary report.  They ignored the survey results for the most part, they know full well what they've done.  Do they really want to be reminded, again?

There are more than a few items that need to be at least mentioned:

Roll Call Votes:  We had heard that this year there would be roll call votes at this meeting for passing motions.  Didn't happen, the reasons why are obvious.  We can fix this in the future, just as soon as the membership can amend our bylaws.

Nonsensical reimbursement reductions.  A complete sham -- trying to make believe that the EC7 will actually reduce its reimbursements by 25%.  The facts are much closer to 10% over 2009 actuals, and Region Officers actually have a net increase over 2009 actuals.  These were nothing more than paper tiger cuts.  If you think that the EC7 reducing their actual reimbursements by ~$3-$4K justifies a $60K tax on the membership ($10 dues increase), you're simply not paying attention.

An Additional Short-Term Dues Increase:  The 1st PIP is likely right on this matter (hey, you swing the bat enough times, you're likely to tip the ball sooner or later), [paraphrasing] in 12-18 months leadership (mis-managers) will have to revisit this issue considering another $10-$15 dues increase.

There is very little leadership going on here.  Instead of returning this organization to a completely volunteer organization (no reimbursements), modernizing the WBCCI so that it is attractive to ALL Airstream owners, and that includes that abomination of an opening ceremony and teen queen contest, we'll continue down a path of nickel and diming everything, just to maintain their status quo and their Great North American Tour.  Mis-management wouldn't have it any other way...

My projection for dissolution by 2015 still stands...  Members that pay $1-$20 locally are running out of patience for an elite group, full of honor and prestige, that wants $65, $75, $80 a piece from local unit members.  The membership is waking up, and our membership numbers in 2011 will start to tell the true tale of what years of feckless leadership have really done here.

MetroNY, 30 members at $65 each = $1,950.00.  Local dues, 30 members at $15 each, $450.00.  What International benefits does our $1,950.00 buy us that we couldn't provide ourselves?

Regardless of whether you love your unit, or love your club, you've got to start showing these leaders that your membership in this club is not guaranteed.  If they're going to hide membership surveys from you, if they're going to  disregard your opinion in these matters, then your best bet is to show them that your membership, your unit's membership is no longer guaranteed in this club.

I propose that loyal member or not, skip your 2011 Membership Directory listing, and withhold your dues until AFTER the Mid-Winter IBT Meeting in January of 2011.  Give confused and misguided club leaders something to really think about -- that you might not renew in 2011 until you evaluate their performance at their $17,000.00 Mid-Winter IBT Soiree...

We're either going to set leadership on the right path, or they're going to drive this club right into the dirt, in very short order...

Does your 4-6 digit number honor your membership, or their 3-digit vanity, honor and prestige?

Precisely what I intend to do.  I announced that to everyone within earshot at our luncheon last week.  As the year goes on, I intend to whisper in the ear of a lot of folks.  My renewal is based on what comes out of winter IBT 2011.

If we can get hundreds nationwide to do the same, someone should listen.

As to why no roll-call votes, I don't know.  I will see an EC7 member this week and I definitely intend to ask.

We'll be a little more direct here.  Our 1st business meeting will be in April, I fully expect there to be a very big discussion about this, and if it goes the way I think it will, it will be in our newsletter.  I expect the majority of our unit, will withhold their dues until after the 2011 $70K+ Mid-Winter Soiree...

Have you ever wondered how every single IBT meeting NEVER produces a value added member benefit?  Why is that exactly?
