Good morning from Sunny South Texas. As I read through the litany of discussion concerning the Motions and Amendments to the By-Laws of Wally Byam, I get the distinct feeling that the situation is business as usual. When the topic of financial solvency is a focal point, many times, rather than trying to resolve issues, finger pointing and blame become the discussion. Budget and fudiciary responsibility can only be resolved by implementing a hard and firm budget for the necessary line items of daily operations. I strongly disagree with the proposal to raise dues. An increase in dues will only contribute to a further erosion of trust, allowing for more mismanagement and loss of membership.
A volunteer organization should be exactly that. We all have talent and skills that can make this a truly fun and exciting organization. Funds are necessary for minimal operation, all other activities should be managed through all of us volunteering. This is our organization to either continue or lose, we are Wally Byam, not just the elected Officers. Thanks Chuck Green TAU # 168.

A few thoughts re IBT.

There is no choice but to make good the Madison short-fall, but as a signal of the unhappiness of the membership an amendment could be moved calling for the transfer of the full amount less $1.00.   See who votes for that.

It really does not matter how the votes are counted as long as we have a system where the current elite chooses their successors and interlopers are discouraged, shunned, impeded, and prevented from even having the membership know they are running. And those who persist are harrassed, punished and (God forbid) put on probation, suspended and "fired".

A committee to propose a re-org of the Club might be a good idea, providing the general membership is given real access and the outcome does not just reflect the views of the current elite.  Committees are the blind alleys down which good ideas are sent to be killed.

Sorry guys, no time to chime in -- just here to update some Units that have also informed their membership, and then I've got to get back to validating surveys!

Very happy to report that we have a number of 100% emailed additions:

South Carolina Coastal Unit

Washington Unit

Mid-Atlantic Unit

Mid-Eastern Michigan Unit

Keystone PA Unit

Central Indiana Unit

Metro Detroit Michigan

We're also receiving a LOT of personal messages that members, regardless of opinion, are grateful that we've sent this survey forward.

It appears that somewhere there are breakdowns in communication all over this club.  Some Unit Presidents weren't aware of these motions, many unit officers weren't aware of these motions, and countless members weren't aware of these motions.

So much for the 21st century -- welcome back to 1963!

We have four more days and it would be great if in just about a weeks time just as many participated in this survey as did in the survey of 2004.  Just maybe...  Just maybe if we didn't have International Club types out there trying to intimidate their membership from participating, we could do it.

Yes, it's happening.  I got wrapped up in one first hand last night.  No sooner than a unit leader sent the notice out, an International type came out and discredited not only me personally, but the mere notion that members should be concerned about this at all.  No one from that unit has taken the poll as of yet, and I've written the IP to step in and reassure members that they are welcome to participate.

Can you imagine making statements to quell member's own concerns by trying to reassure them that leadership has a handle on this?  HELLO?  In which year in the last five has leadership had a handle on anything concerning the growth of our club?  In the last three, the solvency of our club?  Ever increasing deficits and losses without restraint.  They can't help themselves, they certainly can't help us...

Take the survey so that leadership will understand what the mentality is back at the unit level, a place many of them have left, oh so long ago...

On the right side of the equation we have the Region 3 President forwarding the survey to all of his Unit Presidents, and encouraging all of his membership to participate.  In another region, an International type intervenes and warns members that they should 'not cause havoc within the club.'  Brilliant...

Hey I'm sure I'm missing posting a couple of units here -- I'm going to have to go back and label these things...  Add one more:

Mahoning Valley Ohio Unit

Please look at the list -- if you know anyone in units that have yet to declare, please forward them a link and let's get them involved!

Scared of repercussions for imputing my survey.I spoke my mind but I feel intimidated by the IBT officials. They read my survey and I am sure there will be repercussions.I saw what happens to club members who do not follow the leadership and keep their mouths shut .Do I really want to maintain my membership in wbcci, and feel intimidated by these people? Is this the kind of club I want?I just joined the Escapees club.

The disclipline motions will pull the cloak of secrecy even closer over the process.  Justice should be seen to be done and open justice works against abuse.  The other end of the scale is the Star Chamber where "good and sufficient reasons known only to the King" was enough for conviction in secret. Lets not go there.

All notices in the processes mandate US Mail (delivery to addressee only).  As a Canadian I wonder how that would work for me if I were accused.  As a full-timer I could be accused ,tried, convicted and sentenced before the US Mail caught up to me on the road to effect "delivery to addressee only" of the original notice.  Why not use alternative means of delivery; pony express, stage coach or maybe email.

We could break 300 respondents tonight!

Hey if you had to guess which Unit in the WBCCI has the most Internet savvy members, which unit would you guess?

So far this unit has submitted 18 individual surveys, more than any other unit of any size.

String every third letter below together and you'll have your answer...

Re: 2010 Meeting & Motions Survey - JUST 18 HOURS Left!
« Reply #28 on: January 17, 2010, 10:55:40 PM »

We're headed for 350 respondents but you wouldn't believe the number of well known critics that haven't even taken the survey yet, and they've got JUST 18 HOURS LEFT before THEY get locked OUT of the process...  :'(

Wow,  talk about voter apathy.  How tough is it to fill out a survey?   ::)

This survey, with individual names and email addresses will be copyrighted and NOT be available for general distribution.  This report will NOT be available online for those very reasons.

A sanitized version will be available with member names and email addresses removed from the survey in the 1-2 weeks (I need a BREAK), and even that version will only be distributed to club members.

So you snooze, you lose, and if you're not in it, you just might have to wait until after the IBT to see it.  My priorities change after 9pm tomorrow night (SURVEY CLOSES AT 6PM EST)...

By the way, this survey isn't all about detractors.  There's a pretty good mix of those FOR these items and AGAINST.  The only ones that lose here are the Region folks that DIDN'T pass this information down to their members, and you can figure out which ones those are just by looking at the list in the 2nd post of this thread...
