Rallies? Activities?
« on: January 05, 2010, 04:41:10 PM »

I'd like to start a thread on what people would like to happen at a WBCCI, Unit, or Region or for that matter Int'l Rally.
What do you want? What's missing?
For instance a friend of mine suggested a Disco Dance Rally, but I turned him towards a Country Western Rodeo, Chili Rally. Granted a 70's themed Disco Vintage rally sounds cool
Personally, I would not want every single minute organized, I like to go on tours with friends, and haves some time to my self.....
What I'm reading is: WBCCI Rallies are over organized and Airforums Rallies are not organized enough????
for those that don't know me, I was brought up in the WBCCI since I was 16, (1977)and am very, shall we say overly comfortable with the staus quo, but I'm trying very hard now to effect change.
our unit this year has a SKYDIVING RALLY, which I helped make happen because of my love of aviation (and yes I'll be jumping). That and we had the Provincetown rally turned into a National Speical Event.
I'm still compelled to ask what do people WANT.:
Thanks

Just a few quick thoughts as it applies to Carol and myself.

Less organization
fewer catered meals, more potlucks
More boondocking rallies
Fewer, read that as no, $40 parks with "resort" in the name

No dress up functions, opening ceremonies beyond glad your here, No installation ceremonies requiring fancy clothes and region officers getting travel expenses.

More time to kick back and relax.. We are busy enough at home

We personally do not participate in nights out at the theater, and usually not to trips out to restaurants.

We also do not go to luncheons etc because it is silly to travel for hours to go have lunch and many of them are scheduled midweek eliminating any working people,

Probably this goes contrary to what many others want, but after all we admit to being cheap, uncultured, and somewhat anti social

3 & 4 day boondocking rallies work just fine!

Unique locations (non-campground) add a sense of adventure.

Community breakfasts, community dinners.

Nightly campfires.

Beyond that whatever options somebody wants to throw out there.

We've enjoyed winemaker talks, NYC Duck rides, bike rides, individual touring, etc., and have taken advantage of onsite extras depending on where we go (horse carriage rides, wine tasting, museums, music).

Anything surrounding an event or a unique location just adds value and relieves the group of most planning.

Because we're a fairly close group (in proximity) off-season breakfasts get whichever members want to get together 2 out of our 4 off months, within a 30 - 40 mile ride (or less) for most and that works just great.

I've had others tell me that there needs to be a constant schedule for the group, but have found that many will go off on their own between breakfast and dinner, yet if they want to hang around the campsite, others do that as well...

At the region level, I'd love to see short informal openings.  I've never made it to a closing, so not sure what goes on there.  This year we had nightly campfires (great), and some hosted happy hours for any and all (bigger is sometimes better).

Personally, bigger rallies offer more options, more conversation, and more things to do, so joint rallies work well too!

Now, if only somebody could only work up a Nascar rally... ;)
