53rd International Rally, Gillette, WY
« on: September 17, 2009, 08:40:11 AM »

Over on the "new" WBCCI forums, a friendly and peascefull discussion on the 53rd International Rally was moved to a non-public, members only section of the forums. This isolates members who do not have access yet to the members section, even though they should and leaves potential and past members of WBCCI out of a discussion that could potentially lead to improvememts to large scale rallies like this one.
To that end, we are starting a free and open discussion on that topic here where the concerns of moderation hopefully will be alleviated.
What are your thoughts on the International Rally in Gillette, the cost and the activities you would like to see there.

Headquarters has started posting the schedule information for Gillette. You can see what they have done at: WBCCI.org

You will want to check back occasionally for updates. We will keep you posted here on any additions.

I posted a question as  to why the posts were taken off the public forum, and was told by Charlie that such a post did NOT conform to the rules, so it was deleted, and any such discussions must be held via PM.

BS! - I saw the statements that Steve was making and was actually reading when Charlie moved the posts to the members only section. They were respectful but did express an opinion that might be viewed as not positive towards the International Rally, it's value to families with young children and the overall cost to that family.
I am not the only one who saw it and then watched it disappear.

I am also saying that I believe that the new forums ARE being moderated straight into Pleasantville. Out of sight means out of mind. I don't see this type of moderation as helping the club! It gives the leadership a false sense that all is all right with the membership - that all are content. It doesn't help the general public who are thinking of joining WBCCI when all they see are shiny, happy faces and then when they join discover the organization at the international level just doesn't cater to families. Thank God for the units who do successfully fulfill these needs.

Steve's point is right on target. I have kids - grown up now, but still... I see the International being geared towards a more elderly demographic rather than a more family with kids oriented event as it should be. Steve has my support in this area - he is right.

I saw it too.  There was nothing wrong with the posts Steve made, nothing personal, nothing heated, nothing disrespectful.  It was a normal conversation as you hear often from younger Airstreamers who are working and have families.  Hey you hear it from older Airstreamers without small children too.  Rallies are costing more and more and the activities leave an awful lot to be desired and working families that cannot stay longer and must pay for each child get the short end of the deal.

WBCCI has to realize forums are open to postings of any opinion as long as the terms of service are not violated.  But once again the WBCCI gets in hot water by rendering the rules to suit their own objective on the fly.  Any stretch, any liberty can be taken as long as they have their fellow head nodders backing up what ever one of them thinks is befitting.  Issues aside it is a matter of backing each other right or wrong. And that they think is ethics...

The forums is not a web page for promotion.  When they understand that they will be able to stop crumpling up the paper and starting over.  When they learn it is more like a live group phone call and there are no do overs it might begin to work the way forums are supposed to.  The micromanaging and oppression can be cut with a knife it's so thick.  That is why so many do not choose to join or to stay in the club.  It is because it is stiflingly one sided and shamefully protectionistic at any and all costs.  Their priorities are easily seen from their demonstrations. Just look at the long list of casualties of well intentioned hard working members and unit and intraclub and region officers too.

They think posters saying the rally is too expensive and not fun enough is their image problem.  NOT SO!   Their image problem is not that things could be improved but of the way they handle anything that comes their way that is not praise.  They just DON'T get it.  They would have to allow themselves to let go of their pride and defer to others once in a while.

Jim there are untrue remarks going around. Tim is absolutely correct.

I'm really not paying much attention to what's going on over there, missed all of this, but I think Steve just signed up here yesterday, no?

Steve, have at it -- we're more than happy to have a round on Gillette or even Du Quoin...

right Jim! that is their scam... and also since every discussion includes input from someone who is a Mod or Admin, if you post something in disagreement you are technically violating this policy. They have used this a number of times to delete my posts that have been rebuttals to false statements made by Charlie or Greg. They get their say but nobody else does unless they are in agreement.

Carol,  you have nailed it on the head! This statement in this context is genius. This is exactly the problem the the folks running things don't understand.
